Objectives / Purpose of Job:

The purpose of our Test, Service and Installation Engineer role at FTT is to provide support to our customers worldwide by ensuring the operation and maintenance of our fire testing instruments and hardware and software products.

This will involve testing, installing, servicing and supporting all our instruments and hardware and software.

Key Activities / Responsibilities:

Testing

Final testing of instruments post production:

  • Conduct thorough electrical and mechanical inspections of instruments and software.
  • Verify the presence and functionality of all ancillary and spare parts.
  • Ensure instruments are safely and appropriately prepared for transport.

Installation & Training

  • Perform on-site installation of instruments, including reassembly and connection to customer-provided services.
  • Install software on customer supplied PC’s where applicable.
  • Deliver training on instrument operation and maintenance.
  • Typical installations last 2–5 days and may be combined with other service visits.

Servicing & Maintenance

  • Provide on-site and back-to-base maintenance, emergency repairs, and hardware/software upgrades.
  • Service both Fire Testing Technology (FTT) instruments and those from other manufacturers.
  • Routine service visits typically last 2–3 days and may be combined with other jobs.

Technical Support

  • Offer remote support via phone and email.
  • Conduct factory acceptance testing in collaboration with maintenance and customer returns.
  • Maintain regular client contact and travel internationally (approximately 25–50%) for installations, training, and service.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications / Training:

Essential

  • Degree in science, electrical or electronic engineering
  • Qualified to ONC/HNC or equivalent in electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering
  • Have at least two years’ commercial experience of working within an electrical test, inspection, assembly, service engineering or on-site support capacity
  • Experience with instrumentation systems, temperature control, electrical wiring and mechanical design
  • Experience in a customer facing role

Desirable

  • Programming experience
  • Use of Microsoft Access
  • Experience of performing on site installation & service on customer sites
  • Experience of training customers on scientific equipment
