Objectives / Purpose of Job:

We are seeking a proactive and detail oriented individual to support the Engineering Manager in day-to-day operations of the engineering department.

 

Key Activities / Responsibilities:

  • Technical lead within a small, mixed discipline, project design team to produce quality design solutions in line with cost, time and quality requirements.
  • Take the lead with responsibility for timely delivery of outputs within defined deadlines.
  • CAD modelling of parts and assemblies.
  • Lead concept design and development of both new products and improvements to existing products.
  • Ensure that products comply with Standards and customer requirements.
  • Responsibility for design approval and final drawing release within SolidWorks PDM.
  • Generate engineering, documentation, eg. product requirements, product definition, P&IS, etc. 
  • Discuss requirements with suppliers and select suitable OEM parts.
  • Investigate problems, identify root cause, and implement solutions.
  • Implement design changes via Change Note process.
  • Transfer new and updated designs into Production.
  • Provide support to other teams within the company, including Production and Service departments.
  • Familiar with maintaining Engineering Change processes.
  • Provide Mechanical Engineering leadership and supervision.
  • Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications / Training:

Essential

  • Ideally qualified with an HNC or higher, with proven industrial experience, in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience of leading small engineering projects.
  • Experience in New Product Development (design, build, test, release).
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD design using weldments and sheet metal.
  • Minimum of 10 years work experience within mechanical engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

 

Desirable

  • Experience with using engineering sciences / calculations / analysis as part of product design.
  • Working in a project oriented environment.
  • Able to manage multiple projects.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work both independently and within the team, within tight deadlines and target budgets.

 

Skills and Attributes

  • Have a flair for innovation, new concept designs and a passion for mechanical engineering.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all stakeholders to understand diverse and complex requirements.
  • Ability to fit in and work well both in a team and in working autonomously when required.
